Greta takes on her toughest challenge yet

Greta Thunberg, who inspired the world by taking action against the climate crisis, is trying to change the world again: this time, by hand-delivering supplies to the victims of Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

THE DETAILS: Thunberg and 11 other activists set sail Sunday from Sicily’s eastern shore aboard a ship organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition to challenge Israel’s deadly blockade of Gaza and bring urgent aid.

  • Thunberg, tearful at a press conference, said: "The moment we stop trying is when we lose our humanity."

The mission includes European Parliament member Rima Hassan and "Game of Thrones" actor Liam Cunningham.

A previous attempt by the group in May was stopped after Israel attacked it with drones in international waters.

WHY IT MATTERS: Gaza is on the brink of famine. More than 52,000 Palestinians — mostly women and children — have been killed in nearly 19 months of Israeli assaults. Aid has been choked by Israel's illegal siege, worsening an already catastrophic situation.

  • Israel claims the blockade targets Hamas. But human rights organizations and the international community say civilians are bearing the brunt of what amounts to a genocidal campaign.

Just a reminder: Punishing or targeting citizens is a war crime. Israel’s government—backed by our tax dollars—doesn’t care.

Meanwhile, Republican scumbag Lindsey Graham openly fantasized about Greta’s death.

WHAT'S NEXT: The ship hopes to reach Gaza in about a week unless blocked or attacked.

As Thunberg put it: "No matter how dangerous this mission is, it's not even near as dangerous as the silence of the entire world."

At least 27 Palestinians killed after Israel opens fire near food distribution point

Overnight, we got another glimpse of the genocide Greta and company are sailing into. The Israeli military says it opened fire “on a group of individuals who had left designated access route.” Three children and two women are among the dead. It’s the third consecutive day of Israel killing people trying to get food in Gaza. It shows just how little Israel cares about native Palestinian life. Full story from The Guardian.

Ukraine's massive drone attack deep inside Russia lays bare Putin's vulnerability

Military experts are saying Ukraine’s attack over the weekend was stunning and audacious, with widespread effects only just becoming clear. Some are even calling it Russia’s “Pearl Harbor.” In it, Ukraine took out 40 Russian aircraft — 34% of Russia's strategic cruise missile carriers. It’s unclear how Russia will respond. Trump’s pick to run FEMA didn’t know there was a hurricane season

Color us shocked—a Trump pick is wholly unqualified and unprepared to run the agency they’re tasked with managing? FEMA staffers were left baffled on Monday after its new, Trump-appointed head said during a briefing that he had not been aware the country has a hurricane season. Did he not complete the 6th grade? Suspect in Boulder Molotov attack faces federal hate crime charge

A man accused of throwing Molotov cocktails at pro-Israel demonstrators on Sunday has been charged with a federal hate crime, as the number of injured victims rose to 12. Luckily, all victims are still alive. The attack was limited because the suspect was unable to get a gun because of his immigration status. In short, gun control works! Full story from Axios.

➡️ Question of the Day

Yesterday we asked, do you support Medicare for All? The response was overwhelming.

Chyp voted no and said, “Although I like the idea of Medicare for all I see problems with the implementation of it since our healthcare system is currently so complex. Plus it’s far more expensive than it should be.”

MLivington disagreed, saying, “This is a no-brainer; countries with healthcare available to all have healthier, more productive citizens and lower medical costs in the long run.”

Diane also votes yes, and wrote, “I work with insurance companies all day and they are so unfair to the clients as well as the providers. Providers are not even allowed to speak to humans at many of the insurances and then clients get angry at us that we get the wrong information from online sites.”

There’s really nothing good about the way we do healthcare now.

TODAY’S QUESTION: Related to yesterday’s question, would you be willing to pay more in taxes if it meant you could get Medicare? Tell us why or why not after you vote!

IN DEPTH

Bernie’s blunt breakdown of why Kamala lost

Bernie knows why Kamala lost—and it wasn’t Joe Biden.

Speaking with the BBC over the weekend, Sen. Sanders said Kamala lost the 2024 election not because of Joe Biden's exit but because she failed to champion working class voters.

THE DETAILS: Sanders, fresh from his "Fighting Oligarchy" tour, said Harris' campaign ignored his advice to focus on economic justice: raising the minimum wage, real health care reform, and affordable housing.

  • "I ran all over the country trying to elect Kamala Harris and begged them: Talk to the needs of the working class," Sanders said. Instead, he noted, the campaign cozied up to billionaires and establishment Republicans.

Sanders slammed Harris for aligning with figures like Liz Cheney and billionaire Mark Cuban.

  • "Kamala spent more time with Liz Cheney almost than with anybody else. What is that message out to working-class people?"

WHY IT MATTERS: Trump's return to the White House could have been prevented, Sanders argued, if Democrats prioritized everyday Americans instead of elite endorsements from celebrities and corporate donors.

  • In his words: "To my mind that was a campaign that absolutely should have been winnable," but the Democratic leadership once again sided with the 1%.

THE BACKGROUND: Sanders has long warned that the Democratic Party risks alienating voters by favoring wealthy donors and centrist figures over bold, progressive policy. In 2024, that strategy failed.

He emphasized to both the BBC and The Washington Post that Democrats must finally choose: "Which side are you on?"

WHAT'S NEXT: With Trump back in office and the left reeling, Sanders' critique should become a rallying cry for a progressive realignment that speaks to the working-class base Democrats keep losing.
