TOP STORY
The MAGA civil war has begun—and it’s glorious

The MAGA movement is falling apart—and that’s great news for anybody who hates fascism
WHAT’S GOING ON: A full-scale civil war has ignited in Trump’s MAGA movement over his administration’s refusal to release the full Epstein files.
Last week, Trump’s Department of Justice released a two-page memo of their “investigation” which they hoped would be the last word on the whole topic.
They claimed that—despite victimizing over a thousand young women—there was no client list, no one else will be prosecuted, and there is no doubt Epstein killed himself.
That’s essentially what the government has been saying for years—which MAGA conspiracy theorists—from Elon Musk to J.D. Vance—have never accepted.
SINCE THEN: In the aftermath, Trump’s base turned on Attorney General Pam Bondi—placing the blame squarely at her feet.
Bondi had previously promised to release the files, and even told Fox News in February that that the Epstein client list was “sitting on my desk.”
Over the weekend Trump went ballistic on social media—imploring his followers to drop the issue. (Maybe because Trump, a sexual predator himself, had a long “friendship” with Epstein, that he would rather you forget.)
BUT BUT BUT: Unlike previous Trump flip-flops, the firestorm shows no sign of stopping—partly because of a massive youth fascist convention that happened in Tampa over the weekend.
From the stage, a who’s who of right-wing blowhards from Tucker Carlson to Megyn Kelly to Steve Bannon refused to let the story die—calling for the full release of the Epstein files and/or Pam Bondi’s head.
ZOOM OUT: What all this amounts to is very good news for anybody who loves democracy and hates fascism.
The MAGA movement—despite its outsized voice in corporate media and the Republican party—isn’t very big. Only 16% of American adults self-identify as “MAGA Republicans.”
Trump, whose approval rating has been steadily falling since taking office, can’t afford to lose any support.
And that could spell doom for the fascists in the midterms: Steve Bannon has even warned this issue alone will cost them 40 seats in the House. (Democrats only need to flip three seats to take the majority next year.)
WHAT’S NEXT: Smart Democrats are sensing the blood in the water. AOC had the perfect response on Twitter (basically begging to get sued by Trump).
And Rep. Ro Khanna plans to force a roll call vote in Congress over releasing the files so every member has to go on record about their position. Brilliant.
As Politico said this morning—this story isn’t going away. And we are here for it.

🗞️ Making News
Trump cuts food aid as hunger surges across America
A stunning new report from The Wall Street Journal chronicles America’s growing hunger crisis. Food banks were already struggling to keep up with demand after the end of pandemic-era programs and rising grocery prices. Now, they’re bracing for things to get even worse—thanks to Trump’s cuts to the social safety net in his “big, beautiful” bill. Why isn’t this front page news everywhere? Full story from the WSJ.
American beaten to death by Israeli settlers in the West Bank
Sayfollah Musallet, a 20-year-old Palestinian-American visiting family in the West Bank, was beaten to death by Israeli settlers while an ambulance was blocked from reaching him. If he were an Israeli-American killed by Palestinians, this would be breaking news on every channel. Full story from NBC News.
FEMA missed thousands of calls from Texas flood victims after Noem fired contractors
As floodwaters devastated Texas, Trump’s Homeland Security chief Kristi Noem quietly fired hundreds of FEMA call center workers—leaving thousands of desperate survivors without help. This isn’t just incompetence—it’s sabotage, designed to prove government can’t work by breaking it on purpose. Full story from Common Dreams.
New docs show the CIA knew more about Oswald than it ever admitted
For 60 years, the CIA claimed it barely knew who Lee Harvey Oswald was before JFK’s assassination. Newly released documents prove that was a lie: the agency was tracking him, clashing with him, and possibly trying to recruit him through anti-Castro operatives it funded. The revelations raise fresh—and chilling—questions about what the government knew and covered up. Full story from The Washington Post.

IN DEPTH
ICE’s tactics are “blatantly unconstitutional,” experts say

The Trump administration’s crackdown on immigrants is moving into terrifying new territory—one experts are calling “blatantly unconstitutional.”
DRIVING THE NEWS: Over the weekend, two legal experts appeared on MSNBC’s Velshi and issued a chilling warning.
“You can't simply racially profile or profile people based on their national origin and start pulling them off the streets,” said former U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance. “That, by definition, is a police state.”
Lucan Ahmad Way, a democracy scholar, called the administration’s tactics “blatantly unconstitutional”—especially ICE targeting students who’ve criticized Trump.
THE CONTEXT: ICE is about to undergo a rapid transformation—fueled by a massive funding boost tucked into Trump’s “big, beautiful” bill.
With more money, more agents, and fewer rules, ICE will become the most powerful—and dangerous—police force in the country.
BUT BUT BUT: This isn’t just about building an anti-immigrant police force—it’s about building a paramilitary agency with total allegiance to Trump.
“The danger,” said Vance, “is that the people in charge are no longer the career officials with training who understand loyalty to the Constitution. These are quite literally people who understand loyalty to Donald Trump.”
ON THE GROUND: The danger isn’t abstract. Trump’s gestapo is already killing people—and it may get a lot worse.
A California farmworker died after a violent ICE raid late last week. Shortly after the same raid, Trump authorized ICE agents to protect themselves using “whatever means” necessary.
WHAT’S NEXT: This is how police states are built: slowly, then all at once.
The left can’t just wait for the next horror story. We need to defund and abolish ICE, dismantle the architecture of authoritarianism, and make it clear—before it’s too late—that this is not normal.
🗳️ Last week’s poll results
On Thursday we asked, do you think the Democrats will take back the House in 2026? Everybody is very optimistic!

Naomi voted yes: “Most people are fed up with Trump and his executive orders! Tariffs, deportations, detention jails in alligator infested Florida, big tax cuts for the billionaires, the high debt, the increased cost of living, etc. We have to start now to mobilize blue votes and win seats in both House and Senate on our next elections.”
Nathan voted yes but was rightfully skeptical: “They probably will (if the electoral process is fair), but I doubt they'll win 40 seats. Knowing Democrats, they'll shoot themselves in the foot over the candidates the top brass in the party prefers and only gain about 25% of that if they're lucky. In other words, if the top prefers centrists, you won't get 40 seats.”
Still others had bigger doubts. GHBlues voted no and said: “First, Trump and the MAGAs have spewed so much hate and lies, I think their base is too brainwashed to change their minds. Second, I'm not sure there will even be another election.” Don’t worry—I am 100% confident there will be!
