Trump’s “big, beautiful” bill Is murder

Donald Trump's massive tax cuts for the wealthy and big corporations, currently working their way through Congress, will strip healthcare from millions of working-class Americans. This isn't just bad policy—it's an act of social murder.
THE DETAILS: Analysis from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office released yesterday found that the Senate’s version of the bill would cost nearly 12 million people their healthcare.
That’s because the bill slashes more than $1 trillion from Medicaid, Medicare and Obamacare—with more than $1 trillion of those cuts coming from Medicaid alone.
A previous study of the House bill done by Yale and UPenn found the cuts would lead to 51,000 preventable deaths each year.
That’s slightly less than the total number of American deaths in Vietnam.
And that’s to say nothing of the cuts to nutritional programs like SNAP (food stamps) included in the bill.
BIG PICTURE: Make no mistake—this is murder. Specifically what Friedrich Engels called “social murder.”
Engels, who co-wrote the Communist Manifesto with Karl Marx, described the phenomenon observing the horrific conditions of factories in 19th century Great Britain:
"When society places hundreds of [workers] in such a position that they inevitably meet a too early and an unnatural death... its deed is murder just as surely as the deed of the single individual."
Trump and congressional Republicans are doing exactly what Engels described: sentencing working-class Americans to death by systematically dismantling the healthcare systems that keep them alive, all to fund tax breaks for the wealthy.
THE VERDICT: If Republicans do this—knowing that people will die because of it—how is it NOT murder?
Every senator who votes for this bill is complicit in murder. They can't claim ignorance. They can't hide behind good intentions. They know people will die, and they're choosing tax cuts over human lives.
WHAT’S NEXT: According to the AP, the outcome of this bill is still uncertain.
Voting has been delayed in the Senate as Republicans are rushing to meet a self-imposed July 4th deadline to pass this deadly bill.
GO DEEPER: Here’s what’s in the latest version of the bill.
➡️ Question of the Day
Given that people will die because of the cuts in Trump’s bill—do you think we should start holding politicians and business executives legally accountable for social murder? Tell us why or why not after you vote.
Last week, following Zohran Mamdani’s historic victory in New York City, we asked, do you feel more or less hopeful. The room was split.

William voted less hopeful and voiced the concerns of many: “Trump will destroy the U.S. if his recklessness isn't stopped and soon. I hope we're not let down again in November 2026. Things need to change!!!”
Carol voted less hopeful and said plainly, “If you are not outraged you are not paying attention. Every day is a new nightmare.”
Still others took Mamdani’s victory to mean things are changing. Tom wrote: “With Trump destroying America people are finally waking up to the fact that unrestricted capitalism is NOT the best system for ALL Americans and that a Democratic Socialist government will actually help All Americans recover from the last 50+ years of the disaster we have been enduring.”
Jiggle also provided us with some optimism. “I'm a glass-half-full person so maybe it's just wishful thinking. I'd like to think the tide is turning somewhat. I don't believe the majority of people like the way the current administration is heading, we've had many successful social programs that haven't destroyed the country, and I believe people like that.”

IN DEPTH
Trump, corporate media M.I.A. at funeral for slain lawmakers
Hundreds of mourners gathered Saturday in Minneapolis to honor Melissa and Mark Hortman, the Minnesota Democratic lawmakers gunned down by a MAGA extremist earlier this month.
But Trump—and corporate media—were nowhere to be found.
THE DETAILS: The service, held at the Basilica of St. Mary, featured a tearful eulogy from Gov. Tim Walz, who was a close friend of the couple.
Also in attendance were former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris.
Meanwhile, Trump—who refused to even call Walz to offer support—went golfing.
And despite the fact this horrific attack that would have once garnered wall-to-wall coverage from corporate media, this ceremony was barely mentioned in nightly newscasts.
BACKGROUND: The alleged shooter carried a hit list of 72 Democratic politicians and reproductive rights advocates and his best friend described him as "a strong Trump supporter".
Yet corporate media has largely ignored this connection, instead choosing to fill their websites and airwaves with attacks on Zohran Mamdani.
THE REAL STORY: This selective silence isn't accidental—it's strategic. Corporate media outlets depend on advertising dollars from the very industries that profit from political instability and division.
When right-wing violence targets Democrats fighting for working families, there's no profit motive to give it sustained coverage.
Meanwhile, the same media machine that buried this story will spend weeks obsessing over the latest culture war distraction or parsing every word of some meaningless political theater.
They'll manufacture outrage over manufactured controversies while ignoring the systematic targeting of politicians who actually threaten the ruling class.
BOTTOM LINE: This is how American capitalism protects itself: not just through policy and police, but through information control that keeps us focused on everything except the real sources of our suffering.
