Trump’s next target

In what’s being called one of the most shameful press conferences in the history of the Oval Office (yet), Donald Trump yesterday flatly admitted who he plans to target next: natural born, American citizens.

  • At the same event, Trump also confirmed that he was outright defying an order from the Supreme Court to return a man he admits was mistakenly deported to an El Salvador prison.

WHAT HAPPENED: Trump made the shocking comments during a joint appearance with Salvadoran dictator Nayib Bukele, who has opened his country’s notorious mega prison to people Trump wants to disappear. American taxpayers pay for this “deal,” by the way.

  • When asked if he would return Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, who was in the U.S. legally and deported in an “administrative error,” Bukele responded: “Of course I’m not going to do it.”

Last week, the Supreme Court ordered the administration to “facilitate” Kilmar’s return to the U.S., but Trump and his cronies have been defying that order. 

THERE’S MORE: If that weren’t enough, Trump also openly mused about deporting natural born citizens to El Salvador’s hell-hole prison.

  • He said: “We have homegrown criminals that push people into subways, that hit elderly ladies on the back of the head with a baseball bat when they’re not looking, that are absolute monsters. I’d like to include them.”

Prior to the event beginning, Trump told Bukele outright, “Home-growns are next. The home-growns. You gotta build about five more places. It's not big enough."

  • This builds on what White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said last week, that Trump was interested in deporting U.S. citizens if there was a legal way to do it…—as if laws will stop Donald Trump.

BIG PICTURE: This should send a chill down the spine of real Americans.

  • When a president floats the idea of deporting U.S. citizens to foreign prisons without due process, while openly defying a co-equal branch of government that should be able to stop him, we no longer have a democracy—we’re in a dictatorship.

If Trump can erase someone’s rights with a lie and a plane ticket, no American is safe.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT: All eyes now turn to the Supreme Court. What will Chief Justice John Roberts do in the face of this ultimate defiance?

One college fights back

This wasn’t on our 2025 bingo card: Harvard University is standing up to Trump—the first elite university to do so.

Harvard’s president says the university “will not surrender its independence or its constitutional rights.”

WHY IT MATTERS: Trump’s crusade to control higher education just hit a wall—and Harvard’s resistance may give other schools the courage to fight back.

THE DETAILS: The Trump administration had issued a sweeping set of demands to Harvard, including:

  • Eliminating all diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.

  • Turning over student and faculty data, including foreign students accused of misconduct.

  • Forcing “viewpoint diversity” in every academic department—a thinly veiled push to privilege conservative voices.

  • Sharing hiring and admissions data by race and academic metrics.

Harvard flat-out refused, calling the demands unlawful and unconstitutional. In a statement, President Alan Garber declared: “Neither Harvard nor any other private university can allow itself to be taken over by the federal government.”

THE BACKGROUND: Since returning to power in January, Trump has waged a campaign to remake academia in his image—weaponizing accusations of antisemitism to target top universities.

  • Another Ivy, Columbia University, quickly caved when Trump threatened to yank hundreds of millions of dollars to that school.

Harvard faced criticism for hesitating to push back, but the tide turned after more than 800 faculty members demanded action last month.

  • Experts say Harvard’s stand could serve as a “road map” for other schools.

WHAT'S NEXT: In response, late last night the Trump administration announced it was freezing $2.2 billion in grants to the school.

  • Expect the rest of this saga to play out in court, as hopefully more schools will follow Harvard’s lead.

But at least somebody is fighting back.
