TOP STORY
Two people inspiring us right now

Rep. Don Bacon (left) and Mayor Ras Baraka (right)
Sometimes the news is overwhelmingâpartly because Trump wants it to be overwhelming so you donât fight back.
But people are fighting backâand we want to feature two of them who are seriously inspiring us right now with their courage: one Democrat and one Republican.
MEET MAYOR BARAKA: While most Democrats are too scared to even whisper the words âabolish ICE,â Mayor Baraka is out in the rain physically blocking them.
This week, Baraka has led pre-dawn protests outside a new, privately-owned migrant detention center his city says is operating illegally.
The city has taken them to courtâbut Baraka is also taking it to the streets.
Heâs vowed to return every day until city officials are allowed to inspect the facility, which ICE has blocked.
Baraka isnât just pushing paperwork. This hero is standing shoulder-to-shoulder with priests, nuns, immigrants, and activists at 6:30 a.m. vigils in the rain.
Heâs making it clear: his city will not be complicit in the scapegoating of poor, migrant workers.
MEET REP. BACON: While most Republicans have sold their souls to avoid a mean tweet, Rep. Bacon is doing the oppositeâdefending the healthcare of millions, no matter what the orange one says.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Rep. Bacon has become one of the biggest roadblocks in Trumpâs plan to gut Medicaid.
Trumpâs allies are trying to ram through $880 billion in Medicaid cutsâslashing healthcare for tens of millionsâbut Bacon is refusing to go along. Heâs still for cuts, but doesnât want such drastic ones.
Itâs not just Medicaid. Bacon has stood up to Trumpâs idiotic tariffs, his handling of Ukraine, even his attempt to rename the Gulf of Mexico.
And while other Republicans are afraid to say Trumpâs name in public, Baconâs justâŠnot. Heâs a rare beacon of hope in an otherwise sea of spineless cowards.
OUR MESSAGE: Mayor Baraka and Rep. Baconâthank you. In the fight against fascism, we donât have to agree on everything. But we do have to show up. And right now, you are.
ALSO INSPIRING: At least 80 pro-Palestinian protesters were detained at Columbia University in New York after taking over a library room last nightârefusing to stay silent about Israelâs ongoing genocide.
MAKING NEWS
New poll: Trump losing support of voters who got him elected
The numbers donât lie. A new poll says Trump is rapidly losing support among three groups that helped him secure the presidency: young voters, Latinos, and independents. His approval among those groups has dropped around 10 percentâmeaning, were the election held today, weâd be reporting on President Harris. Full story from The New Republic.
Judge blocks deportation flight of Asian migrants to Libya
Stooping to another low, it was revealed Wednesday that the Trump administration planned to deport poor, migrant workers to horrific detention centers in Libya as early as this week. Butâjust last night, following the news of the pending deportationsâthe system worked as it should and a federal judge blocked the plan. Letâs see if the Trump administration complies. Another Navy jet falls into sea, marking fourth major mishap in months
Yes, you read that headline right. An F/A-18F Super Hornet jet, worth about $67 million, went overboard trying to land on an aircraft carrier. Luckily no one was injured. Itâs the fourth such incident in a matter of months where a jet has been accidentally lost. Thatâs $268 million worth of taxpayersâ money that could have been spent on school lunches or raising teachersâ payânow gone. Full story from The Washington Post.
Abortion ban forced woman to carry fetus with no heartbeat for weeks
The Republican war on women is destroying lives and causing irreparable harm. Elisabeth Weber, a South Carolina mother, was forced to carry a dead fetus for weeks because doctors said the stateâs abortion ban prevented them from helping her. Even as her body showed signs of infection, she was denied a D&C â all because of a law supposedly meant to protect life. Full story from People Magazine.
QUESTION OF THE DAY
YESTERDAYâS QUESTION: Yesterday we asked, given the recent troubles at Newark Airportânot to mention crashes and near missesâdo you still feel safe flying? The results were⊠not close.

Dave voted no and said, âI've worked for the airlines for about 25 yrs and the problems that this administration is causing with aviation should scare everybody. Thank goodness I'm retired and don't have to fly anymore.â
Meanwhile Joe shared this terrifying story: âI was coming back from Germany and was getting ready to land at San Antonio International. All of a sudden the pilot had to run the engines hard to avoid us crashing into another Airliner on the ground. Fortunately, it didn't end in a Crash. That was mid April.â
But still, Wabi voted yes and had a good point: âSafer than driving,â
TODAYâS QUESTION: Whatâs the number one thing keeping us from a better world? Tell us why after you vote!

IN DEPTH
Meet Amazonâs terrifying new robotâthatâs definitely coming for your job

An Amazon worker next to his replacement
Amazon has a terrifying new employee: a robot with a sense of touch. And despite what corporate America claimsâitâs undoubtedly coming for your job.
DRIVING THE NEWS: On Wednesday, the corporate behemoth unveiled a new robot called Vulcan at an event in Germany that uses AI to handle and manipulate objects in warehouses.
Itâs Amazonâs first robot with a sense of touch, allowing it to handle delicate tasks like storing products in high warehouse binsâjobs currently done by humans.
The company claims the robot will only be used on high-up shelves, and that humans will still work lower shelves.
BUT BUT BUT: Amazon admitted to CNBC that this new robot can be used on 75% of items in an average Amazon warehouseâ20 hours a day.
Expect Amazon to cut workers in routine or task-based roles just as fast as it possibly canâespecially as more and more Amazon warehouse workers fight to organize unions.
BIG PICTURE: Itâs not just Amazon workers who are at risk.
Automation has already claimed millions of jobs over the past two decades in the U.S. and a new, AI-driven wave is expected to claim millions more.
A study from Oxford found that every new robot claims the job of 1.6 workersâa huge impact that is changing the future of work.
This is a big reason Trumpâs push for more manufacturing jobs is a farceâmost manufacturing jobs are being automated and will never come backâ whether theyâre here or in China.
In fact, up to 20 million manufacturing jobs could be lost to robots by 2030âand the government warns that up to 50% of all jobs could eventually be automated.
Itâs a brave new world, folks.
GO DEEPER: Hereâs what workers can do to protect themselves from automation.
