LOCK THEM UP
Trump team leaks classified war plans in unsecured group chat

In what the New York Times calls an “extraordinary breach of national security,” several senior Trump administration officials—including the Vice President—accidentally leaked classified war plans to a journalist in an unsecured group chat.
WHY IT MATTERS: For years, Trump and Republicans piled on about Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server, even encouraging “lock her up” chants at his rallies. Maybe they’re the ones who should be locked up?
WHAT HAPPENED: On Monday, Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, published a story claiming that he had been mistakenly added to a group text chat on the app Signal earlier this month.
In the chat, the VP, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of State, and the National Security Advisor discussed plans to resume bombing Yemen, one of the poorest countries on Earth.
At first, Goldberg thought it was a disinformation campaign by a foreign government or conservative media outlet.
But after a user labeled “Michael Waltz” (Trump’s National Security Advisor) celebrated the launch of airstrikes—and minutes later Goldberg confirmed airstrikes had hit Yemen’s capital—Goldberg realized it was real, and left the chat.
Within hours of posting the story, which included several screenshots, the White House was forced to confirm that yes—this colossal fuckup did happen.
THE BACKLASH: Politico reports Washington insiders are “aghast” at this massive security breach—and that admin officials would use a consumer texting app to discuss highly classified military actions.
Pete Buttigieg, a formal intelligence officer in the military, went viral for tearing into the Trump admin (we didn’t know Mayor Pete knew the F word).
Meanwhile on TV, Rachel Maddow torched Pete Hegseth, while Jon Stewart revealed his favorite line from the group chat.
WHATS NEXT: Washington insiders are saying heads will have to roll after this massive breach. Buttigieg pointed out that anybody else might be court-martialed.
Early reports say it might be Waltz who takes the fall, but the ultimate decision lies with Trump.
The real question is whether or not Democrats will use this to bludgeon the clown car of incompetents currently running our country.
For more than six years, Trump has harped about Hillary’s email server, while Republicans ceaselessly investigated the Benghazi tragedy for years, looking to pin it on incompetent national security officials.
Will Congressional Democrats roll over and play dead (again)—or actually fight back? That’s an open question.
📰 Most important stories right now
There’s a lot of shit out there. Here’s what’s actually important—and why.
Why it matters: Since coming home from LA and winning the Oscar for No Other Land, the film’s crew has been under constant attack. Zionists are trying to make it clear: no one who speaks out against Israeli violence escapes Israeli violence. Full story from The Guardian.
Why it matters: Despite promising repeatedly that he won’t cut Social Security, the coming changes to Social Security are actually being driven by the White House. What should take two years they will do in two weeks. Full story from Axios.
Why it matters: Zohran Mamdani’s grassroots, volunteer-powered campaign shows that everyday people are rising up to challenge the status quo. We’re fed up with late stage capitalism—things cannot continue like this. Full story from Gothamist.
LET ME STOP YOU
The real reason Bernie stormed out of that interview

Shortly before drawing the biggest crowd ever of his career—some 34,000 people in Denver—Bernie Sanders almost stormed out of a television interview.
Bernie had good reason to be mad: the Washington press corps is always more interested in political infighting than actual issues—and it’s the public who pays the price.
WHAT HAPPENED: In an interview with Jonathan Karl of ABC News, Bernie answered questions about his ”Fighting Oligarchy” tour and why it’s so important for all concerned citizens to fight back right now.
But when Karl, a long-time Washington D.C. journalist and insider started asking about AOC (who joined him on the recent leg of the tour) and whether or not she should challenge Chuck Schumer in a primary—two years from now!—Bernie had enough.
“You want to do nonsense, do nonsense,” the Senator abruptly responded. Karl had to beg Sanders to sit back down for one more question.
THE BIG PICTURE: Bernie’s frustration with political “journalists” and the DC press corp is well founded.
Corporate media has long prioritized palace intrigue and personality politics over real issues like inequality, healthcare, and climate change—topics Sanders and AOC are putting front and center across the country.
This isn’t just a media critique—it’s a crisis of democracy. When headlines ignore working people in favor of Beltway gossip, voters are left uninformed and disengaged.
WHAT’S NEXT: Bernie and AOC’s tour continues in key battleground states—where, unlike in TV news studios, everyday Americans are listening.
🗳️ Question of the day
Jonathan Karl’s last question for Bernie (that he got him to sit back down for) was about Sanders’ own future. So we want to know: Do you think Bernie should run for president again? Tell us why or why not in the comments after you vote!
